Swimmer, Diver Receive Sun Belt Honors

Two members of the Florida Atlantic University swimming team have been recognized by the Sun Belt Conference for their performances in the first two competitions of the 2009-10 season.
Freshman Eszter Bucz of Budapest, Hungary earned the conference's Female Swimmer of the Week Award while sophomore Garret LeMon of Citrus County, Fla. was named the Male Diver of the Week after competing in a dual meet at Florida State University and the Georgia Tech Invitational on October 2-3. The awards were announced Thursday by the Sun Belt Conference.
Bucz made a smooth transition to the collegiate ranks by winning the 1,000-yard freestyle, 400-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle events in her debut at Florida State. She was victorious in the 500-yard freestyle race by 26 seconds (4:57.16), 1,000-yard freestyle by 14 seconds (10:07.27) and individual medley event by three seconds (4:26.80). Bucz followed that performance with two runner-up finishes in the 200-yard individual medley and 200-yard breaststroke races at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
LeMon had competitive scores in the 1- and 3-meter diving events in the Florida State dual meet and Georgia Tech Invitational. He had a season-high 273.15 point tally in the 3-meter diving competition at Florida State and placed fifth in the 1-meter diving event at Georgia Tech, scoring 225.70 points.
The women's swimming and diving team will battle arch rival Florida International University on Friday in Miami, starting at 11 a.m.
