Women 8th, Men 7th at Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, FL - Lindsay Lucas and Taylor Reeves were the high individual finishers for the Florida Atlantic University cross country team at the Mountain Dew Gator Invitational.
Lucas completed the women's 5K in 18:41.45 to finish 14th, while Reeves finished 11th in the men's 8K in 25:55.72. Katie Quick (20:04.74/50th) and Toni Jackson (20:05.20/51st) were the next to finish for the women. They were soon followed by Patricia Gumbs (20:18.51/53rd), Deanna Loafman (20:29.18/55th) and Charlene Luxama (20:33.16/56th). Jaymie Brooks rounded out the field for the Owls, finishing 61st in a personal best of 20:40.65. Lucas, Gumbs, Luxama also set personal records in the event.
On the men's side, Reeves broke the school record in the 8K, finishing 11th in 25:55.72, becoming the first Owl to break 26 minutes at that distance. Kyle Butler ran a 26:28.75, finishing 23rd as an unattached runner. Tim Haines finished 42nd in a personal record time of 27:09.38. Freshman Eric Dansky ran a 27:29.27 to place 54th. Jay Salois finished just over 10 seconds later in 57th place. Sean Buono finished in 69th position to finish the scoring for the men. Stephen Dassin (28:26.61/78th), Jordan Dopkins (28:27.20/79th), Ryan McCann (28:59.86/88th) and Brandon Berwick (29:42.61/103rd) all ran well for FAU.
"Given the level of competiton at the event, and our youth as a team, I thought we ran fairly well," said head cross country coach Alex Smolka. FAU continues its season on Saturday, September 27 when it takes part in the FSU Invitational in Tallahassee, FL.
