Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team lost a double over time thriller to Seattle University by a score of 2-1. Seattle University (5-1-0) struck first with a goal by Kyle Peterman in the 18th minute, but FAU's Gianni Piccoletti responded just before half time with a successful penalty kick attempt.
The Owls and Redhawks battled back and forth but remained gridlocked for the 60 minutes with a score of 1-1. Both squads had opportunities to gain the lead in the 2nd half and overtime, including a near miss by Darnell King in the first overtime. King's shot barely got enough air under it to fly over the cross bar. However, with just 6:30 left before the game would be declared a tie after a 2nd overtime, Redhawk Wesley Van Hooser tapped a ball into the back of the net.
FAU is 2-4-0 on the season and will start Mid American Conference play on Wednesday, September 17th at the University of Buffalo. After five consecutive road matches, the Owls will return for a home match against conference opponent Hartwick College on Saturday, October 11th at FAU Field, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton.
