Florida Atlantic University's Lauren Shue, Shawna Griffith, Jenny Harms and Brittany Fabry swept the 1000-yard freestyle against Florida State University on Friday afternoon in Tallahassee, but the Owls were unable to defeat the Seminoles. FAU's women's swimming and diving team fell 160-118, while the men dropped a 178-98 decision.
Griffith (10:18.30), Harms (10:20.92) and Fabry (10:23.38) all swam their fastest times of the season in the 1000 free, while Shue missed her Sun Belt Conference leading time by one second. The senior from Fort Myers, FL posted a time of 10:13.92.
Lindsey Alexander continues to drop time in her backstroke events. She beat her season-best time set last weekend when she swam a 2:04.08 in the 200 back. Alexander also took second in the 100 back in 57.62.
Bianca Murphy and Kalina Neal both picked up second place finishes in their respective events. Murphy swam the 100 free in 52.07 and Neal posted a time of 2:25.52 in the 200 breast.
The women's diving team took the top spot in both the 1- and 3-meter events. Lisa Thompson posted a score of 240 on the 1-meter board and took second on the 3-meter board behind Lauren Harvath with a score of 273.
On the men's side David Rudolf won the 200 IM with his best time of the season. The freshman from Budapest, Hungary touched the wall in 1:55.69. Michael Shimansky took second in the 1000 free (9:39.93), Matt Moran took second in the 100 free (47.62) and Tyler Griffith finished second in the 100 back (53.18).
The Owls will swim in their final meet of the regular season on Saturday when they head to the University of Florida for a 1 p.m. meet.
