The Florida Atlantic University swimming and diving teams finished the regular season on Saturday as they faced off with the University of Florida. The FAU women fell to No. 3 UF 169-124 and the men were outscored by the no. 6 Gators 172-112.
Freshman Michael Shimansky continues to improve as he posted a season-best time in the 1000 free. His time of 9:32.68 earned him a first place finish and is the second fastest time in the Sun Belt Conference this season.
On the women's side, Kalina Neal earned a first and second-place finish. In the 200 bresat she took first in 2:26.96 and touched the wall in the 100 breast in 1:07.90 for second place. Bianca Murphy picked up two second-place finishes. She swam a 24.23 in the 50 free and a 52.08 in the 100 free. Senior Shawna Griffith swam the 400 IM in 4:29.21 to take second for the Owls.
In the diving events, FAU took second in both the 1-meter events. Samantha Schlachterman took second on the women's side with a score of 244.42, while Nick McMahon posted a 253.80 for second. Lauren Harvath posted a 258.08 on the 3-meter board to win the event.
The Owls will next compete at the Sun Belt Championships on Feb. 28 - March 1 in Nashville, TN. The women will try to defend their conference title and win their third straight SBC Championship.
