GAME TEN: The Florida Atlantic women's basketball team plays the second of their two games in the Bahamas when they face Conference USA foe in the Sunshine Shootout on Thursday at 4 p.m.
SERIES: East Carolina leads the series 1-0. The Pirates won the only meeting between the two teams on December 30, 2002 when, at the Georgia Tech NW Holiday Invitational, Alisha Bishop scored a game-high 23 points en route to an 86-78 win over the Owls.

SUNSHINE SHOOTOUT: There are six teams in the 2008 Sunshine Shootout (FAU, Mercer, East Carolina, Memphis, Georgia Tech, Winthrop) Three of the teams will compete in a tournament format, the other three, including the Owls, will be in a round-robin tournament. FAU faces East Carolina on Saturday at 4 p.m.
FLORIDA ATLANTIC: FAU went back and forth with the Mercer Bears on Thursday afternoon, leading by as many as five early in the second half. Then they came back from a nine-point deficit and after Carla Stubbs (Miami, FL/Jackson HS) hit a jumper, the Owls led 66-65. Mercer then tied it at 66, and after Dominique Chism hit a lay-up with 52 seconds left, the Bears would not trail again as they defeated FAU 74-68. Brittany Bowe (Ocala, FL/Trinity Catholic HS) led the way for FAU with 16 points, a season-high on seven-of-12 shooting. Jessica Knurick (Commerce, MI/Seminole CC) had her third straight double digit rebounding game and first double-double, scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds.
EAST CAROLINA: East Carolina is 6-3 coming into this weekend's tournament, having recently defeated Gardner-Webb on Tuesday night 81-54 and the University of North Carolina-Wilmington 68-63 last Sunday, the Pirates will play Mercer in round-robin play on Friday night. The Pirates are led by guard LaToya Terry who averages just under 20 points per game. Terry scored 23 points in Sunday's win over UNC-Wilmington.
STUBBS CONTINUES TO PAY DIVIDENDS: Since being re-inserted in the starting lineup against UCF on November 22, Carla Stubbs has returned to the form that led to her being named All-Sun Belt Third Team last season. Over the last seven games, Stubbs has averaged 13.4 points, six rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. Among the noteworthy perfomances was a 12 point, nine rebound game in the win over Bethune-Cookman November 25, and a 17 point performance in the Sun Belt opener against Denver.
THE KNU(RICK) DEAL: Jessica Knurick has picked up the rebounding slack in the past three games for the Owls. Knurick picked up a career-high 11 rebounds against UIC on December 3, ten days later, she picked off ten boards and scored eight points keeping the Owls close against Denver. Against Mercer this past Thursday, Knurick posted career-highs in scoring with 10 points, rebounding with 13 boards, and three assists, keeping the Owls close against the Bears.
