Deland, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's golf team began day two of the Stetson/CFSC Invitational in third place, seven strokes behind the University of South Carolina-Upstate. Powered by four Owls golfing their best round of the tournament, FAU (303, 294, 288- 885) was able to move ahead of USC-Upstate (293, 297, 298-888) to earn a second place finish. FAU finished 10 strokes behind tournament host and winner Stetson University (298, 292, 285 - 875).The tournament was held at Victoria Hills Golf Course (Par 72-6,954 yards).
Individually every Owl cracked the top 20, led by sophomore Kelly McHugh in fifth place. Ben Silverman, Michael Baskovich, Billy Bowling and Sterling Searcy, Jr. were the other scorers for FAU. Head coach Angelo Sands believes that the continued improvement over the fall schedule is due to the players believing in themselves. "Most of golf is a mental game" Sands commented.
The tournament marked the end of the fall schedule for FAU golf. Sands is proud of the progress made in the four tournaments this fall. "We played fantastic. Last year we averaged above 315, this year we averaged under 300. We are playing really solid and consistent golf."
