GAME FOUR: Fresh off their first win of the year, the Florida Atlantic University Owls return home for the first of three straight games at FAU Arena. FAU faces Bethune-Cookman out of the MEAC conference on Tuesday, November 25 at 7 p.m.
THE SERIES: FAU leads the series 13-3. The two teams have not met since December 13, 2005 when the Owls beat Bethune-Cookman 80-46 in Daytona Beach. Five players scored double-figures in the game, led by Sally N'Diaye who scored 14 points. The last time FAU lost to the Wildcats was on December 13, 1999, when Bethune-Cookman defeated the Owls 73-70 in Boca Raton.
OWLS VERSUS FLORIDA (DIVISION I): Since joining division I in 1994-95, the Owls are 56-80 against teams from the Sunshine State.
RADIO/INTERNET: Steve Bishop will call the action on Friday night beginning at 6:45 p.m. with live play-by-play audio free of charge on www.fausports.com.
TWO DOLLAR TUESDAY: Fans who attend Tuesday night's game at FAU Arena can purchase a hot dog plus a drink for two dollars.
THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE: FAU will also be participating in a Thanksgiving food drive benefitting the Daily Bread Food Bank. Any fan who brings a non-perishable item to the game will receive admission for just one dollar.
FLORIDA ATLANTIC: Florida Atlantic won their first game of the season on Saturday against UCF. Carla Stubbs (Miami, FL/Jackson HS) scored 21 points on eight-of-13 shooting, 14 of those points came in the second half as the Owls fought back from a 10 point first half deficit to defeat the Knights 68-63. Brittany Bowe (Ocala, FL/Trinity Catholic HS) added 15 points and fired six assists and Jaimie Givens (Orlando, FL/The First Academy) scored 12 points as the Owls shot 13 of 22 from the field in the second half (59 percent). FAU got to the line often, knocking down 16 of 19 free-throws in the second half and going 22 for 27 during the game. FAU forced 22 Knight turnovers.
BETHUNE-COOKMAN: Bethune-Cookman is now 2-0 after defeating St. Augustine's 63-48 last Tuesday in a game that was moved to Embry-Riddle. Four players average double-figures in scoring in the early portion of this season, led by Demetria Frank's 16 points per game. Frank led the way with 17 points in the win over St. Augustine. Sarah Bolden handles much of the rebounding load, having corralled 29 boards in the first two games. Head Coach Vanessa Inge is in her first season after finishing 6-24 last year.
TURNER IMPRESSIVE IN OPENING WEEK: Of the five newcomers to compete for FAU in the first two games, Breana Turner stood out. Turner came off the bench late in the first half and got on a hot streak en route to scoring a team-high 14 points against the nationally-ranked Lady Bears. She followed that up with a 17-point effort against Georgia Southern in the home opener.
THANKSGIVING TOURNAMENT: For the second year in a row, Florida Atlantic will host a thanksgiving tournament at FAU Arena. The Owls will host Ohio Valley Conference opponent Tennessee Tech on Saturday, November 28 at 3 p.m. In the nightcap, no. 13 Texas faces Atlantic Coast Conference foe Georgia Tech at 5 p.m. The winners of the two games will face each other in the championship of the Thanksgiving Tournament at 5 p.m. the losers will proceed in the consolation match at 3 p.m.
