BOCA RATON, FL - Morgan Johns had a match-high 16 kills to lead the Florida Atlantic University volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-20, 18-25, 25-14, 25-12) win over Louisiana-Monroe on Sunday.
Johns' 16 kills were the most for her in Sun Belt play this season. The Owls (12-14, 5-9 Sun Belt) got out quickly in set one, leading by as many as nine, before ULM pulled within two at 21-19. FAU won four of the next five points to win the set 25-20. Set two featured four lead changes and nine ties, the final one coming at 16 all before the Warhawks closed on a 9-2 run to send the teams to the locker room tied at one set apiece.
The two teams struggled for control of the third set when Johns took over. With FAU leading 12-11, Johns had a kill then served the Owls to a 19-11 lead on the way to a 25-14 set three win. In set four, Johns and Katie Arvidson both had extended serving runs as FAU clinched the match 25-12.
Krystena Castro added 10 kills for the Owls. FAU continues its homestand on Friday, November 7 when they host Western Kentucky at 7 p.m.
