Six players scored in double-digits for Baylor, led by Rachel Allison's 18 points and 13 rebounds as Florida Atlantic struggled from the field in a 90-45 loss to the Lady Bears at the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas on Friday.
Both teams struggled somewhat in the early going, the Owls still only found themselves only down 6-0 when Brittney Bowe got on the board just over four minutes into the game. Baylor, though, continued to run as they held a decisive rebounding edge, corralling 70 boards (29 of them offensive) to the Owls 33. After Baylor got off to a 34-9 start to the game, the Owls were unable to get any closer.
"Baylor's an unbelievable team," said Head Coach Chancellor Dugan. "They absolutely got after it on the boards tonight and we just couldn't compete."
The Owls bright spot did come from freshman Breana Turner. She led the way for FAU with 14 points, she was the only player in double-digits. Carla Stubbs added seven points as the Owls only made 17 of 63 shots from the field.
Baylor got a double-double off the bench from Morghan Medlock, who scored 14 points and led everybody with 16 rebounds. Danielle Wilson added 12 points Ashley Field scored 11 late in the game and Jessica Morrow put up 10 points for Baylor (1-0). The Owls fall to 0-1 on the season, and return home to FAU Arena to face Georgia Southern on Monday night at 7 p.m. For tickets, call 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
