ORLANDO, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's cross country team finished 34th at the Disney Classic over the weekend. Several men competed at the meet, but the Owls did not field a men's team.
Friederike Feil finished in fourth place as an unattached runner. Jaymie Brooks posted the best time for the FAU women, finishing the 5K in 20:38.90. Deanna Loafman had the next best time, finishing in 20:49.00. Valerie Herzog completed the course in 23:19.20. Rachel Ruddock ran a time of 24:53.60 in her first meet of the season. Monica Murillo was the final runner to score for FAU, finishing in 24:12.70. Karen Bellido (24:49.90) also ran well in her first collegiate meet.
Mohammed Razib was FAU's first male finisher, completing the 8K course in 28:45.50. He was closely followed by Ryan McCann in 28:56.30. Brandon Berwick crossed the finish line in 29:23.70. Jason Debish ran a time of 29:49.40 as an unattached runner. Tyler Sununu finished in 31:00.10 for FAU. John Saxton ran a time of 31:18.10, also running unattached. The four men who broke 30 minutes improved on FAU's showing at last year's meet, when only one male runner who broke the 30 minute barrier.
"This meet was a great opportunity for some of our younger runners to compete against some very good competiton," said head cross country coach Alex Smolka. The Owls travel to Deland next weekend for the Hatter Invitational.
