Raleigh, NC- The Florida Atlantic men's soccer team lost a non-conference match with North Carolina State University 5-3. N.C. State, a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), improves to 3-5-1, while FAU falls to 2-9-0.
The Wolfpack scored the first goal seven minutes into the match and added another at the 29 minute mark. Up 2-0, NC State padded their lead with a pair of goals right before halftime.
Down 5-0, FAU rallied in the second half. Sophomore William Castaldo scored his first goal of the season on an assist by Liam Ogle in the 53 minute. In the 78 minute, FAU went on its own scoring streak. Co-captain Jordan Kelly converted on a penalty kick, giving the junior his first goal of the season. 30 seconds later, senior Shire Standnes knocked a Trey McEntee pass into the net. It was the fourth goal of the season for Standnes. FAU made several more attempts to tie the score, but fell to N.C. State by a score of 5-3. Sophomore goalkeeper Matt Cosinuke was given his first start in goal of the season and made two saves.
FAU will recover from a two-week, five-game road excursion before playing conference opponent Hartwick College on October 11 at FAU field located at 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
