LITTLE ROCK, AR - Four Owls in double digits were not enough to overcome UALR as the Florida Atlantic men's basketball team fell to the Trojans 80-76.
The Owls trailed by as many as nine points in the first half but a Xavier Perkins layup just before halftime cut the Owls' deficit to 41-39 at the break. The Trojans' lead crept back up to six early in the second half. A Carlos Monroe basket at the 14:21 marks capped an 11-0 Florida Atlantic run. Monroe's bucket was the last Owl field goal for more than more than six minutes.
A Paul Graham triple with 8:01 remaining ended the drought and cut UALR's lead to 63-57. The Trojans' lead was 75-68 with 2:27 left when Graham was fouled and went to the line for two free throws. He missed both attempts, but the Owls forced a turnover and were able to pull within five. Graham was fouled while making a layup and made the score 78-74 in favor of UALR. Graham could not convert the three-point play and FAU was forced to foul. Lekeythan Malone made one of his two free throw attempts and another Graham score cut the Trojans' lead to 79-76. A De'Andre Eggins free throw provided the final margin.
The Owls return home on Wednesday to face New Orleans. The game will start at 7 pm. Live audio will be available on fausports.com and WMEN-640AM. Live stats will be available via GameTracker at fausports.com.
