BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University cross country team will open their season at the Mountain Dew Gator Invitational this weekend.
The Owl men finished 14th at last year's event and had two runners who finish in the top 100 at last year's event.
"Our men are much stronger this season then they were last year at this point," head cross country coach Alex Smolka said. "We have gained a lot of experience since last season's meet."
The women's squad enjoyed considerable success at last year's meet, placing 5th as a team. Two women finished in the top five as individuals and both broke the previous school record in the process.
This year's meet may prove even more successful as the Owls' unique blend of youthful experience gives them an advantage over last year's group.
The Mountain Dew Gator Invitational will be at the University of Florida golf course. The intercollegiate women's 5k starts at 6:30 p.m., followed by the intercollegiate men's 8k at 7:00 p.m.
