Cross Country Competes at Notre Dame Invitational

SOUTH BEND, IN - The Florida Atlantic University cross country team faced its stiffest competition of the season at the Notre Dame Invitational.
Both the men's and women's teams competed in the Gold division, which was reserved primarily for schools from non-BCS conferences. Friederike Feil was the high individual finisher for FAU, completing the women's 5K in 18:56, good for 58th. Katie Quick finished 114th in a new personal record of 19:34, followed closely by Barbara Fronrath who finished in 19:41 to take 123rd place. Toni Shae Jackson ran her best collegiate time of 19:59 to finish 137th. Christina Dutko set a personal record of 20:06 to round out the scoring for FAU, finishing 146th. Emily Seymore (21:41, 203rd) also competed for FAU.
"Other than the National Championships and Pre-Nationals this is probably the biggest meet in the country," said head cross country coach Alex Smolka.
Taylor Reeves finished 128th in 27:08 to lead the FAU men. Timothy Haines ran a personal record of 27:53 to take 169th. Stephen Dassin finished in 178th place with a time of 28:06. John Roy also set a new personal record (28:46) to take 190th and Kyle Butler (29:02, 195th) rounded out the scoring for the men. Jordan Dopkins (29:14, 198th) and Brandon Oakes (29:59, 206th) soon followed to complete the field for the men.
"Both teams ran very well this weekend and we have improved greatly. This is a very competitive meet, but we represented ourselves very well."
The Owls return to action next weekend when Coach Smolka takes selected runners to compete at the Disney World Invitational.
