BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's women's cross country program was recently ranked 14th in the South Region by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The poll was released Monday and ranks the top-15 schools in each of nine regions of the country. The South Region includes schools from Florida, Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee. Of the five Sun Belt schools in its region, FAU is the only one ranked. Arkansas State and University of Arkansas at Little Rock are the only other Sun Belt schools to be ranked in their respective region.
"It's a great achievement for the program and hopefully it will serve as motivation for the athletes to continue to do well," said head cross country coach Alex Smolka.
The women also recently finished fifth at the season opening Gator Invitational.
