The Florida Atlantic University track team participated in the Florida Relays over the weekend.
The meet, which attracts athletes from all over the east coast, was held on April 6 and 7. Eight Owls set personal records and four school records were set at the meet. In the women's 1500, Ashley Wilcox improved upon her personal record by more than seven seconds in a time of 4:50.56. In the 5000 meters, Barbara Fronrath shaved more than 30 seconds off of her personal best to break the tape in 18:39.97.
The men's 1500 meters produced the two best times in school history. Taylor Reeves set the new mark in a time of 4:12.73. Reeves was able to lean across the finish line just ahead of teammate Stephen Dassin, who finished in 4:12.75. Jordan Zwick smashed the school record in the 5000 meters by more 48 seconds. It is the second time this season that Zwick has broken the record and he shaved more than a minute off of the record over the course of the season.
The sprint medley team of Krystal McCarty, Toyria Mattear, Brittany Vollmer and Ashley Wilcox set the school record in a time of 4:07.92. It bested the previous mark by more than eight seconds. The highlight of the weekend came in the 3000-meter steeplechase when Friederike Feil ran a 10:49.93 to finish second. Feil not only set a new school record by more than 72 seconds, she joined Yanique Booth as Owls who have automatically qualified for the NCAA Regional, which will also be held in Gainesville on May 25 and 26.
