The Florida Atlantic University track team competed at the Miami Elite Invitational on Saturday.
The team used the meet as an opportunity to try out different events, as several Owls made their season debuts at different distances and several set personal records. In the 100-meter dash, Amber McGillicuddy, Krystal McCarty and Toyria Mattear all set personal bests. Another trio of Owls ran their best ever times in the 800 meters as Friederike Feil, Ashley Wilcox and Christina Gazzia all bettered their previous times in that event.
Barbara Fronrath smashed her previous personal best in the 1500 meters, finishing in 4:57.60, good for 6th place. Taylor Reeves set a new school record in the men's 1500 meters for the second week in a row, as he finished in 4:12.53, lowering his old mark by two-tenths of a second. In the 400-meter hurdles, Brittany Vollmer set a new personal best in 1:04.01, which is one of the 10 best times by a Sun Belt runner this season. The meet concluded with the 4x400 relay team of Vollmer, Toyria Mattear, Kerry Ann Stewart and Malika Clary finishing behind only Texas A&M, defeating host Miami and Florida International in the process. Their time of 3:44.51 is the second best time in program history and came close to nabbing an automatic bid to the NCAA East Regional.
The Owls will travel to Auburn, AL to take part in the Auburn Invitational on Saturday April 21.
