Denver, CO - The 2006-07 FAU women's basketball season came to an end on Wednesday night in the first round of the Sun Belt tournament. They fell to Denver University, 65-41, at Magness Arena in Denver, CO.
"You have to give credit to Denver for coming off a big lay-over and playing the type of game they did," said Head Coach Chancellor Dugan. "We let them build a big lead and were unable to get back into it."
The Pioneers started the game with a 15-5 run after a Sara Bents lay-in at the 14:45 mark. The Owls would cut their deficit to no lower than eight in the first, as DU used 16 FAU turnovers to build a lead as big as 19. They headed to the break with a 36-19 lead over Florida Atlantic.
In the second frame, FAU cut the Denver lead to 41-30 after a 6-0 run with 12:32 remaining. DU responded with a 9-0 run and built a 20 point advantage with under 10 minutes to play. On top of 40.9 percent shooting in the second, the Pioneers were able to pull away and win decisively by 24.
Senior Mistoria Brown scored all of her team-high 11 points in the first half. Demina Anderson and Cristal Randolph scored seven and three points respectively in their final games as an Owl. Carla Stubbs added seven points on five-of-six shooting from the free-throw line.
The Owls out rebounded the Pioneers 51-36, but only shot 26.2 percent from the field. Denver induced 26 FAU turnovers, and shot 16-of-20 from the free-throw line.
DU was led by 19 points from Alisha Godette. She hit 9-of-11 from the free-throw line. Brooke Meyer added seven points and five boards.
