BOCA RATON, FL -- Carlos Monroe posted a double-double and four Florida Atlantic University men's basketball players scored in double-figures as the Owls ended a five-game road losing streak against Longwood University, 81-63 in Farmville, VA on Tuesday night.
"(Playing three road games in seven days) is about as tough a stretch as you can have," Head Coach Rex Walters said. "For us to come out tonight and be effective was big for our team."
In FAU's final regular-season non-conference game, the Owls outrebounded the Lancers 45-28 and shot 57.6 percent from the floor.
Monroe finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Jeff Parmer (16), Paul Graham (13) and DeAndre Rice (10) helped supplement Monroe's effort. Parmer also grabbed eight rebounds while Graham and Rice each were credited with five assists.
"We felt like we had a size advantage inside," Walters said. "Jeff is a kid who can play a lot of different positions for us and had a efficient night offensively."
Longwood's Maurice Sumter scored a game-high 24 points The win improves FAU's road record to 4-11 and its non-conference record to 5-6.
Florida Atlantic (11-13) will return home to host Florida International on Saturday, a game that will be broadcast locally on CSS as part of the ESPN Regional package.
"It will be an exciting environment for us," Walters said. "But most importantly we need wins and need to play better basketball."
