BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team claimed their first victory of the 2006 season with a 5-2 win over Arkansas State University, Saturday.

The victory was the first home match of the season and the first time FAU faced a non-ranked opponent this season. It was also the first showdown against a Sun Belt Conference opponent.

ASU won the doubles point with wins at no. 1 and no. 3. Katherine Bartnik and Pia Terol teamed together at no. 2 doubles to come away with an 8-6 victory over My-Hang Nguyen and Renne Branker.

The Owls then captured five of the six singles matches for the 5-2 win. Claudia Kecht's match at no. 2 singles was the deciding point with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Paula Chelminska. Kecht won at no. 2 as did Katherine Bartnik at no. 3, Pia Terol at no. 4, freshman Natalia Totevska at no. 5 and Danielle Simone at no. 6.

FAU will next play host to UCF, 1 p.m. February 24 at Patch Reef Park.
