The Florida Atlantic University's women's swimming and diving team repeated as the Sun Belt Conference Champions as they won the three-day event Saturday in Nashville, TN. Head Coach Steve Eckelkamp was named the women's Sun Belt Coach of the Year and Ashleye Henyan was named the women's Diving Coach of the Year.
The Owls started the final session with a sweep of the 1650 free. Lauren Shue, Brittany Fabry and Jenny Harms took the top-three spots and Shue and Fabry posted NCAA `B' standard times with times of 16:29.45 and 16:52.90, respectively. Shue's time also broke the Sun Belt record by more than 15 seconds.
The 100 free on the both the men's and women's side was won by an Owl. Bianca Murphy touched the wall in the 51.88 to win the event and Eren Onurlu swept the sprint freestyle events with a win in the 100 free. The senior posted a time of 44.72 and narrowly missed his own Sun Belt record of 44.64.
Geni Burts also picked up a win for the Owls. She posted a time of 2:03.53 in the 200 fly to edge out teammate Shawna Griffith in second place.
Ellie Weberg picked up her second NCAA `A' standard time in the 200 breaststroke (2:12.93) and is eligible for the NCAA Championships March 8-10 in Minneapolis, MN. Other swimmers who recorded NCAA `B' standard times will wait to see if they receive an invitation to the meet.
