BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team will play its final two matches of the regular season against conference foes this weekend.
The Owls lost their only match last weekend, losing to rival Florida International in three games on Friday in Boca Raton. Head volleyball coach Jody Brown, however, was happy with his team's effort.
"Florida International is a significantly older team than us, but I was very happy with the way we played."
The Owls (6-19, 3-12 Sun Belt) will face South Alabama and Troy in rematches from earlier this season. South Alabama (9-17, 3-12) pushed the Owls to five games before falling 15-12 in the decisive game in their meeting on September 28. Five Owls had double digit kills in that match. Mallory Deneen had career highs in both kills (16) and digs (21) in the victory.
"South Alabama has gotten a lot better since the first time we've played them and it took us five games to beat them then."
The Owls faced Troy (15-16, 6-9) the next afternoon and lost in three games. The Trojans had three players with double-digit kills in the sweep of FAU.
"Troy is a veteran squad with a lot of experience and we expect them to play us tough."
Friday's match against South Alabama starts at 8 p.m.
