BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's cross country team will be in Deland, FL to run in the Hatter Invitational.
The meet is the final contest for the Owls before they head to Western Kentucky to take part in the program's second Sun Belt Cross Country Championship meet.
FAU swept last year's Hatter Invitational, taking both the men's and women's team titles. Friederike Feil also won the women's individual title and Stephen Dassin was the first collegiate finisher at the meet last year. Head cross country coach Alex Smolka know that repeating that accomplishment will be a bit more difficult than last year.
"Florida International and UCF are both sending their best women runners to this event and I'm expecting more competition than at last year's meet," said Smolka.
The men are also facing a tougher field standing between them and a team title repeat.
"Embry-Riddle is a nationally-ranked NAIA program and Florida Southern is ranked in Division II and both of them will provide tough competition at the meet."
The 2007 Hatter Invitational will be held Friday hosted by Stetson University.
