BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's golf team began the 2007-08 season over the weekend with action at the Mission Inn Collegiate Classic, hosted by St. John's University at El Campeon Golf Course in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL.
The 18-team tournament was shortened to a two-round event, with Lipscomb University (+11) taking the overall team title by three strokes over the host Red Storm (+14). Lipscomb's Cody Hale tied Brent Long of Western Kentucky for individual honors, with each finishing at 6-under (136) on the par 71 course.
Sophomore Billy Bowling led the Owls with a two-day total of 153 (+11), good for a four-way tie for 55th place amongst a field of 90 golfers. Junior Anthony Haderer and freshman Jared Miller finished with three others in 71st at 159 (+17), while freshmen Amit Odaiyar (164, +22) and Karl Lindblad (168, +26) rounded out the scoring for FAU.
Florida Atlantic will play the second of three fall events next week against Nova Southeastern at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, FL on October 15-16.
