Michele Fazzari scored her second goal of the season but the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team couldn't overcome a two-goal deficit in the second half against Western Kentucky and fell 2-1 at the WKU Soccer Complex on Sunday.
With the game scoreless in the 21st minute the Hilltoppers struck first, getting Nikki Workman's third goal of the season to jump in front, 1-0. Workman came off the bench and fired three shots, two on goal, during the contest.
The two teams played an even first half statistically, with the Owls holding a slight edge in shots (6-to-5) but the two teams were even in shots on goal at two apiece.
WKU was able to extend its lead thanks to Morgan Thomas' third goal of the season in the 62nd minute.
Fazzari's second goal of the season got the Owls within one seven minutes later in the 69th minute, but FAU couldn't net the equalizer.
Shots were even in the final 45 minutes with six for each side. Thomas' goal was Western Kentucky's only shot on goal in the second frame, but Florida Atlantic could muster only two of its own.
FAU goalkeeper Jessica Badders made four saves while allowing the two WKU goals.
With the loss, FAU (4-4-1, 1-1-0 SBC) falls back to .500 on the season both overall and in conference play. All four losses this season have been by a single goal, and three of the four have come by the score of 2-1.
