Mobile, AL - Whitney Woodard and Monqiue Jones combined to score 47 points for South Alabama, as the Jaguars defeated Florida Atlantic University 69-57 on Saturday night.
"We've got to come together and play a complete game," said Head Coach Chancellor Dugan. "In the first half we executed and we got away from that after half-time."
The Owls started the contest with an early 13-3 lead after a Brittney Crenshaw jump-shot. They held the Jaguars to five points in the first ten minutes. South Alabama responded with a 11-2 run that saw them trailing by one with 6:38 left in the first. FAU built its lead to as much as eight before entering half-time on top 31-25.
South Alabama started the second-half with a 19-3 run that featured five triples to build their lead to 44-34 with 14:59 left. FAU would get the score no closer than seven the rest of the way, as the Jaguars used 48.6 percent shooting from the field in the second to win 69-57.
Mistoria Brown led the Owls with 18 points and seven rebounds. She has now scored in double-digits in eight straight games. Demina Anderson paced FAU in the post with six points and seven boards. Brittney Crenshaw was the second leading scorer with eight points. FAU shot 38 percent from the field during the game. They were out rebounded 47-40.
Whittney Woodard was South Alabama's top scorer with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Monqiue Jones had 23 points on seven triples. Tiffany Sanders rounds out the Jaguars double-digit scorers, putting in 10 points on the night.
Florida Atlantic will be back in Boca Raton this Thursday to take on Sun Belt Power Middle Tennessee State. The game will tip at 7 p.m. from FAU Arena.
