BOCA RATON, FL - Three additional Florida Atlantic University football games have been selected to air on CSS, Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast, bringing the season total to seven televised games.
"We have continued to grow our football television package," said Craig Angelos, FAU's athletics director. "Following the team's rise to a semi-final National Championship berth in 2003 and appearance on ESPN2, an expansive package included seven games in both 2004 and in 2005. This season, the strength of schedule has increased dramatically as have the opportunities to switch from local to national programming."
FAU opened 2006 with a nationally televised game on ESPNU. The following two games were difficult to air locally, due to the ownership of rights by major networks. Fans watched the South Carolina game through the ESPN GamePlan Package and regionally on a delayed basis.
CSS launched in the Miami market in 2005. Overall, CSS reaches more than 5.5 million subscribers spanning 11 states and continues to grow, adding the Palm Beach County market in mid-September, where Comcast acquired the former Adelphia market.
The addition of CSS to Palm Beach County was a perfect fit for FAU and will allow FAU Athletics to showcase the football team to fans from Miami/Dade through Stuart. The first 2006 FAU game to air live on CSS in the South Florida area will be versus Louisiana-Monroe, Saturday, September 30.
FAU's first home Sun Belt Contest of the 2006 season will feature Louisiana-Lafayette, Wednesday, October 18 and will air on ESPN2. Concentrating television efforts on bringing the away games back to the local fans, viewers across the southeast will see FAU play at Middle Tennessee, live on Saturday, November 4 on CSS. CSS in South Florida will then carry live the Saturday, November 18 match-up when FAU travels to North Texas.
FAU's regular-season schedule and bid for a BCS berth will come to an end on Saturday, November 25 when the Owls play host to Florida International in the annual Shula Bowl scheduled for 7 p.m., at Dolphin Stadium. The Shula Bowl will also air live on CSS as part of the Sun Belt Conference package.
