On Sunday afternoon, Florida Atlantic University's volleyball team picked up its first Sun Belt Conference victory with a 3-0 win (30-21, 30-21, 30-28) over the University of Louisiana-Monroe. The Owls held a season-high .408 hitting percentage with only eight errors in the match to defeat the Warhawks. FAU improves to 4-8, 1-1 SBC, while ULM falls to 3-15, 0-2 SBC.
Kaila Janssen finished with her first career double-double by leading both teams with 12 digs and added 10 kills as she was moved to the left side for the match. She filled Iana Andnova's spot as the senior moved back to her previous role of middle hitter. Andonova finished the match with 16 kills and a .389 hitting percentage, committing only two errors.
"We decided to get Iana back to where she felt more comfortable and was more effective," said FAU head coach Jody Brown. "We wanted to get our offense swinging more on the right side."
With Andonova swinging out of the middle, FAU had Janelle Sarauw on the outside. Sarauw finished with a .516 hitting percentage with 17 kills and only one error in 31 attempts.
Running the offense, Casey LaRocca finished with 45 assists.
The Warhawks, with only seven players available, had five players finish with more than five kills. Nicole Schaferkotter led the way with nine kills, while Ilima Sam Fong finished with nine digs.
FAU will next host the University of New Orleans on Monday night at 7 p.m.
