Florida Atlantic University defeated Bethune-Cookman College 3-0 (30-14, 30-15, 30-18) on Friday night as FAU posted its highest hitting percentage of the season. Iana Andonova and Janelle Sarauw combined for 25 of the team's 52 kills and led the squad to a .303 hitting percentage.
"We passed well and were able to stay in our system," said head coach Jody Brown. "I thought we might come out a little nervous in our first home match, but we played confident, served tough and did a good job of limiting our errors."
The Owls (3-7) managed 52 kills in the match, while limiting the Wildcats (3-2) to 19 kills and a .010 hitting percentage. The FAU defense picked up 52 of the BCC attempts. Libero Nikki Hartman (Deltona, FL) dug up a match-high 14 balls, while Sarauw (St. Thomas, V.I.) and Andonova (Margate, FL) both managed double-doubles after recording 10 and 11 digs, respectively.
Andonova recorded a match-high 13 kills followed by Sarauw's 12 and a .391 hitting percentage. B-CC was led by Vonetta Williams with seven kills. Defensively, Danielle Goodrum finished with 12 digs.
FAU opens Sun Belt Conference play next weekend when it hosts Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe and New Orleans at FAU Arena.
