BOCA RATON, FL (August 29, 2006) -- After getting a late goal to tie No. 25 Virginia Commonwealth, the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team (0-1-1) will now turn its attention to a pair of in-state rivals.
The Owls will travel upstate to take on Central Florida and South Florida in a pair of important non-conference games.
Complicating matters is Tropical Storm Ernesto. The storm is threatening the entire state of Florida and could complicate travel arrangements throughout the week. The storm has already postponed USF's match with Stetson in DeLand, FL, scheduled for Wednesday.
The first stop is Orlando, FL, where the Golden Knights will await the Owls for a Friday start, scheduled for 7 p.m. eastern. UCF went 1-1-0 in its opening week of action, dropping a 2-0 decision to Miami before cruising to a 3-1 victory over Florida International. Jessica Hallgren tallied twice in the win over FIU, with Hanna Wilde netting the game winner. Becca Thomas leads the Golden Knights with eight shot attempts. Junior Jennifer Manis is likely to get the start between the pipes, after playing in both of the team's first two games. She's allowed three goals while making five stops.
USF will welcome FAU into Tampa, FL on Sunday for a 1 p.m. start. The Bulls are coming off a pair of 4-0 victories during the Dafeldecker Classic. USF hosted the tournament, inviting Alabama A&M, South Alabama, and High Point to take part.
The Bulls defeated High Point easily in their season opener, scoring a pair of goals in each half. Lindsay Brauer led the way with a pair of goals and an assist on four shots. Brauer would once again lead the way vs. South Alabama, scoring a pair of goals in the first half and finishing with the hat trick for her fifth goal in the season's first two games.
Senior Casey Garrett will likely get the start in net after posting a pair of shutouts. She's made eight saves on the season.
The Owls defeated both UCF and USF by 1-0 margins during the 2005 campaign.
