DOTHAN, AL --- Shontavia Williams became the all-time leading scorer in school history as she led the Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team to a 74-61 victory over Jacksonville in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament. Williams netted 24 points and 10 rebounds to record her fifth double-double of the season.
FAU jumped on the Dolphins early, building a 20-8 lead as Missy Glaser converted a three-point play with 11:10 left in the opening half. JU fought back by going on a nine to two run over the final 2:11 of the frame to trail 37-31 at the break.
Freshman Brittney Crenshaw scored 13 of her career-high 18 points in the first 20 minutes of play to pace the Owls. The Sarasota native also raked in a career-high 13 rebounds to post her first double-double of her career.
FAU shot 50% (16-32) from the floor compared to just 31.6 % (12-38) for Jacksonville in the first session.
The Owls extended their halftime lead to 45-33 at the 17:18 mark of the second session, but JU refused to give in by going on a 12-0 run to knot the score at 45 with 11:54 remaining.
Regina Omiote nailed a three pointer to give the Dolphins their largest lead of the night, 53-49 with 10:12 left in the game.
Williams netted two her of eight free throws on the night to cash in points 1,401 and 1,402 of her career to pass Tiffany Collins on the all-time scoring list and tie the game at 53 with 8:39 left to play.
FAU closed out the game by scoring 21 of the final 29 points of the contest and complete the three game season sweep of the Dolphins.
Missy Glaser went 6-of-14 from the floor to add 18 points for the Owls. FAU dropped in 38 points in the paint and netted 14 points off of second chance opportunities.
Shenna Carpenter led the Dolphins attack with 25 points on 11-of-24 shooting and Virginia Gregoire added 13 points for JU.
