Kevin Cooney, Florida Atlantic University's head baseball coach has announced Anthony Albano, a senior from Chicago, IL has been named the 2006 team captain.
Albano red-shirted last season due to an injury but returned to a preseason ranked 2006 squad.
The Brother Rice High School prepster played at Evansville before transferring to FAU as a junior in 2004. He played in 57 games and finished with 24 RBI and seven doubles before surgery forced him to miss 2005.
"Anthony spent a tough season last year watching his friends play while he recovered from surgery," Cooney said. "It wasn't supposed to play out that way. He was a prospect to scouts and a good senior year could have sent him on his way."
This season, Albano has worked his way into a starting lineup laden with experienced outfielders and leads the squad with 10 RBI and a .640 slugging percentage. His three doubles and home run also contribute to his .400 batting average.
The Owls head into a three-game series with the University of Connecticut this weekend holding a 5-4 record.
