Owls Host FAU Invitational This Weekend

Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team will be ending 2006 with their final regular season tournament. The four team (FAU, Campbell, High Point, Ohio) field will play in the FAU Invitational this Friday and Saturday in Boca Raton.
"We'd like to end the year on a winning note," said Head Coach Chancellor Dugan. "I'm looking forward to everyone getting a chance to play and the team getting back to playing Lady Owl basketball."
On Thursday FAU fell to Sun Belt opponent FIU, 76-59. Mistoria Brown paced FAU with her second double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds) of the season. Cristal Randolph added 11 points on three triples. FAU caused 28 turnovers in the losing effort. Despite their 0-3 conference record, Florida Atlantic has been within six points with less than five minutes to play in each of their Sun Belt defeats.
Two Owls are becoming regulars on the conference leader boards. Shuteamia Brayboy finds herself in the top-ten in several categories (3rd assist-turnover ratio,5th assists, 6th steals) while her teammate Mistoria Brown is making head way as a scorer and rebounder (11th PPG, 13th rebounding). Campbell (3-6) will be Florida Atlantic's opponent on in the opening round of the FAU Invitational. The Camels defeated UNC-Wilmington on December 18th by a score of 69-55. They are led in scoring by Marlena Murphy (13.6 PPG, 10.0 RPG). She has notched four consecutive double-doubles and was named the most recent Atlantic-Sun player of the week.
High Point (5-5) and Ohio (6-4) are the other participants in the tournament field. The Panthers lost to South Carolina on December 20th, 87-49. Candyce Sellers and Leslie Cook are their two top scorers (12.2 PPG and 12.1 PPG) while Amber Manuel leads them in rebounding (6.9 RPG).
The Bobcats started the season 5-0, but lost four of their last five, including their last game against Robert Morris on December 21st by a score of 79-70. Rachel Frederick and Lauren Kohn lead the squad in scoring (16.6 PPG and 16.0 PPG).
The Owls will open the tournament with Campbell at 5 p.m. eastern on Friday at FAU Arena. At 3 p.m. High Point will square off with Ohio. On Saturday FAU will play at 3 p.m. and Campbell will play at 1 p.m. The winner of the Friday games will play for the championship. All Florida Atlantic games can be heard for free on fausports.com.
