Four Florida Atlantic University swimmers won multiple events to guide the Owls to a win over the University of Miami Friday afternoon in the pool. FAU won 10 of 16 events to defeat the Hurricanes 163-136.
Lauren Shue, Geni Burts, Ellie Weberg and Lindsey Alexander all won two events, while Shawna Griffith won the 200 fly in 2:04.92. The Owls also took the final event of the day as the team won the 200 free relay in 1:37.09.
In the 1000 free, Shue (Fort Myers, FL) picked up the first win for the Owls with a time of 10:16.75. She followed it up with a first-place finish in the 500 free by posting a time of 5:00.26, nine seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
Burts (Pembroke Pines, FL) took the 200 free in 1:52.56 as FAU took the top-four spots in the event. Her time of 2:05.17 picked up nine points in the 200 IM.
A sophomore from Fort Myers, FL, Alexander took both the 100 and 200 backstroke events with times of 57.90 and 2:05.25, respectively.
An NCAA Championship participant last season, Weberg (Bloomington, MN) is a breaststroke specialist. She won both breaststroke events as she swam a2:14.52 in the 200 breast and a 1:02.04 in the 100 breast.
The next meet for the Owls will be the largest meet of the winter. Both the men and women will compete at the Minnesota Invite November 16-18.
