TEMPE, AZ - Three Owls notched double-digit performances, but it wasn't enough as FAU dropped the final game of the Veterans Day Classic, 96-60, to No. 13 Arizona State University at Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe, AZ.
"We really stepped up our performance in tonight's game," said Head Coach Chancellor Dugan. "Now we just have to head back to South Florida and iron out some of those wrinkles that we had in this tournament."
Florida Atlantic began the contest trailing by as much as 18 points before roaring back to get the score to within six, 35-29, with 1:41 remaining in the first frame. ASU used a 6-0 run to end the half up 12.
Brittany Bowe had an FAU team high 10-points on 4-of-6 shooting in the opening stanza, she would finish the day with 18 points and four rebounds. Andrea Taylor, who started for the first time, had six points on a perfect 3-of-3 shooting from the field in the opening half. She would end the contest with 11 points.
ASU came out in the second energized, beginning the frame on a 30-12 run that put the game out of reach. The Sun Devils cashed in on 24-of-35 free throw attempts and took advantage of 25 Owl turnovers to obtain the victory.
Susan Beauzil banked in a career high 11 points and had five rebounds for Florida Atlantic. The Owls 36.2% effort from the field was their best shooting total of the season.
Dymond Simon led Arizona State with 19 points and five rebounds. Emily Westerberg chipped in 18 and garnered Veterans Day Classic tournament MVP honors.
FAU is back on the court this Friday for the FAU Tip-Off Classic. They will open the two-day tournament against Akron at 7 p.m. All the action can be heard live on fausports.com.
