New York, NY -- Andrew Helm was the first player chosen during Thursday's Major League Soccer Supplemental player draft, becoming the first-ever Florida Atlantic University men's soccer player drafted into MLS.
"It is great for the program, great for the school, and great for an individual who has the ability to make heads turn," said FAU head coach Kos Donev.
Chivas USA, based in Los Angeles, Calif., selected Helm #1 overall in the supplemental draft, following last week's four-round SuperDraft.
Helm, a Jupiter, FL native, transferred to FAU from South Florida for the 2005 season. He played in four games, scoring two goals while firing 22 shots at opposing keepers as an Owl.
All MLS teams will be allowed to begin pre-season training on Jan. 30.
