BOCA RATON, FL -- Florida Atlantic University got back on track with a, 74-57, win over Lipscomb on Saturday night at FAU Arena. Shontavia Williams led the Owls with 17 points and also moved into second-place on the all-time scoring list with 1,191, career points.
"It was a great win for us tonight," head coach Chancellor Dugan said. "We played with better intensity and need to carry that over the rest of the way."
Missy Glaser and Susan Beauzil deposited two triples each to help lead the Owls to a, 40-16, halftime lead. FAU connected on 6-of-12 threes during the first stanza.
Leading, 16-15, at the 7:55 mark the Owls ripped-off a 24-to-1 run to end the half. The Owls' defense forced Lipscomb to commit 20 turnovers in the first half.
FAU shot 41% in the frame to hold its largest halftime advantage of the season. Lipscomb connected on just 6-of-22 attempts in half and was 2-of-10 at the free-throw line.
The Bisons went on a 10-to-4 run to start the second half, cutting the lead to18, 44-26, with 15:26 remaining in the game.
Lipscomb cut the lead to 11, 51-40, but FAU went on an 8-0 run to extend the lead back to 20, 61-41, at the 7:30 mark and the Owls never looked back as they improved to 7-8 overall and 6-2 in the conference.
FAU cashed in 34 points off of 29 Lipscomb turnovers and the Owls' "Bench Bunch" contributed 30 points.
Beauzil finished with a career-high 10 points and Brittney Crenshaw posted double-figures for the fourth time this season with 10 points.
The Owls will return to action on Jan.26, when they battle Campbell in Buies Creek, NC. Tip time is set for 7:00 p.m and all the action could be heard live on www.fausports.com
