Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team and head coach Kos Donev held their annual Awards Banquet Sunday evening. Among those honored included Bjorn Totland as MVP and David Acosta as Rookie of the Year. Gustavo Alencar was awarded the Leadership Award.
Totland, a senior midfielder on last season's team, led the team with 13 goals and 29 points on 59 shots. For his efforts, the Norway native was named Atlantic Sun Player-of-the-Year and was a member of the NSCAA All-South Region team. Playing in all 16 games, he also led the team with a .220 shooting percentage.
Acosta, a native of Fort Lauderdale (American Heritage HS), made an impact as a freshman. The midfielder appeared in ten games and scored one goal on six shots.
Alencar served as a valuable leader in the midfield. The senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil appeared in 13 games, starting nine, and was a selfless player, notching two assists and no goals.
