BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University will be the no. 7 seed at this week's Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament in Dothan, AL. The Lady Owls will face no. 2 Troy University in Thursday's opening road. FAU is among eight teams in the field with the winner receiving the A-Sun's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. All games involving FAU will be broadcast live on WLVJ 1040-AM.
FAU (12-15, 10-10 A-Sun) has qualified for the A-Sun Tournament six straight years and each season under head coach Chancellor Dugan. The Lady Owls will be seeking their first tournament championship in their ninth appearance, overall, since 1995. This year's tournament is being held at the Dothan Civic Center for the second straight year.
The FAU-Troy game is scheduled to tip Thursday night at 7:15pm EST. The Trojans finished 13-14 overall and 12-8 in the A-Sun. FAU and Troy split their two meetings during the regular season with FAU winning 72-67 on January 6 and Troy winning 57-52 on February 26. FAU leads the all-time series 11-4.
Junior guard Shontavia Williams leads FAU with 14.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. She needs 40 points to become the seventh Lady Owl to score 1,000 in a career. Senior forward Jackie Brown is the team's second leading scorer with 10.7ppg.
UCF is the no. 1 seed and faces no. 8 Mercer Thursday at 2:00pm EST. No. 4 Belmont takes on no. 5 Stetson at 4:15pm. No. 3 Georgia State and no. 6 Lipscomb square off Thursday night after the FAU-Troy game.
Should FAU defeat Troy, it will face Georgia State or Lipscomb Friday night at 9:15pm EST. Saturday's championship game is scheduled for 4:00pm EST and will be televised on Sun Sports.
