BOCA RATON, FL -- Amber Ferraro signed a national letter of intent to compete on the Florida Atlantic University track and field team late last month.
The Poland, OH native signed on Nov. 22, and will begin her FAU career next fall. She holds the school's 300m hurdles record, a mark she broke twice during her prep career.
FAU track coach Alex Smolka said Ferraro will likely compete in the 400m hurdles when she arrives.
"We're very excited for Amber to join our program. She has the potential to be very good, especially considering the climate she had to endure over her high school career," he said. "We are extremely confident that she will blossom into a very good collegiate performer."
Ferraro was named MAC MVP last season, and competed in the state meet during her junior and sophomore seasons.
"She's one of the finest athletes that we've ever had come through Poland," said Poland Track and Field coach Troy Massey. "She is just so athletic and natural at what she does, but she works hard at it too."
In addition to being named three times to the first team All-MAC squad, Ferraro is a member of the high school band and flag line, while also succeeding in the classroom as an honors student.
Ferraro said there was a lot to be excited about as she looks forward to her career as an Owl.
"I am really excited to experience something new. I'm ready to go out and live in a new area on my own. I'm excited to run track on a different level and I think it will be a good experience," she said.
Information from the Poland Town Crier was used in this release.
