LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Florida Atlantic men's basketball team put 50 points on the board in the second half but still fell to the College of Charleston, 90-73, in the second semifinal of the Billy Minardi Classic at Freedom Hall on Tuesday evening.
DeAndre Rice led the Owls with 21 points, including 15 in the second half. Quinton Young contributed 14 with 11 coming after the break.
Rodney Webb scored 13, and Fred Marshall 10. Brent Crews added six assists and six rebounds for the Owls.
Charleston had the advantage at the break, 45-23. FAU pulled to within 14 on several occasions during the second half but was unable to find appropriate momentum to threaten for the lead.
The Owls shot 54.5% from the field in the second half but saw the Cougars connect on 25 of 27 free throws during that time. For the game, C of C shot 86.1% from the stripe and 53.1% from the field.
FAU will play in the consolation game against Middle Tennessee State on Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. The Blue Raiders lost to host Louisville, 76-68, in Tuesday's opener.
