BOCA RATON, FL -- Riding a two-game winning streak Florida Atlantic University will battle non-conference opponents Bethune-Cookman and Florida State this week. The Owls will travel to Daytona Beach, FL to play the Wildcats on Tuesday evening and return home to host the Seminoles on Saturday night. Tip-time for both games is set for 7 p.m.
FAU holds a 13-3 series advantage over Bethune-Cookman with six of the last seven meetings ending in favor of the Owls. In the last match-up on Dec. 30, 2004 the Owls fought back from a halftime deficit to defeat the Cats, 84-75. Sharia Young connected on five of six triples and finished with 19 points. Shontavia Williams added 16 points in the victory.
Florida Atlantic comes into Tuesday tilt with a mark of 2-4 (2-0 A-Sun) with wins over Jacksonville and North Florida. Bethune-Cookman has record of 2-1 as it topped UNF and Florida A&M.
"We are hoping to put a complete game together on Tuesday. We have played great at times and not so great at others. I am looking forward to the test that lies ahead," head coach Chancellor Dugan said.
The Owls will take on FSU on Saturday night at FAU Arena. The Noles fell to 6-2 on the year as they lost to Tulsa, 80-71, on Dec. 6.
Florida State has four players averaging in double-figures. As a team the Seminoles are averaging 75.5 points per game.
"Saturday's game will be a great barometer on where our team ranks against top tier competition," Dugan said.
