The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team will head to UCF for its final regular-season match on Sunday at 1 pm. The Owls have already broken the FAU single season wins record and look to add to their 26-2 mark.
The match was originally scheduled for September 20 but was disrupted by Hurricane Katrina.
The Golden Knights are struggling in their first season in Conference USA. With a 7-15, 5-10 record entering the week, UCF will face UNF and Southern Miss before hosting FAU in its final match before the conference tournament. The team faced A-Sun member Jacksonville earlier in the year and suffered a 3-1 loss to the Dolphins.
Junior middle blocker Jana Mitchell leads the team with a .278 hitting percentage while outside hitter Maina Heming averages 3.06 kills per game to lead the squad.
Six players on the team have recorded over 100 digs and Lindsay Randazzo leads the way with 222 digs.
FAU is on a 10-match winning streak. A loss against Northern Colorado on Oct. 1 was the last time the team was defeated. Since that time, the Owls have dropped only four games, sweeping seven teams.
Kelly Paiva leads the nation with 5.88 kills per game and adds defense as well with 334 digs. Libero Makra Condill leads the team with 405 digs.
Setter Casey LaRocca needs just 43 more assists to break the FAU single season assists record set in 2002 by Jeana Boyle with 1257. The freshman averages 12.27 assists per game.
UCF holds a 25-6 series advantage but FAU took the last meeting in 2004, 3-1 in Orlando.
