MACON, GA -- The Guadarrama brothers dashed the hopes of the Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team for the second time in less than a week on Saturday.
The tandam, who took home both the Atlantic Sun Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards, scored a goal each to lead Campbell over the Owls in the A-Sun Championship semifinals, 2-0 on Bear Field in Macon, GA.
The Owls poured it on early offensively, firing five shots on net in the first half, but couldn't solve CU keeper Aaron Johnson.
The Camels would strike late in the first half, following a corner kick. Sonny Guadarrama converged on a loose ball, and powered it past FAU keeper Anders Granstad. The goal was his 12th, tops among NCAA D1 freshmen.
The Owls would put the pressure on the Camels early in the second once again on chances by Andrew Helm and Ran Poliker, but Helm's shot went wide and Poliker was denied on a diving stop by Johnson.
Seconds later, Willy Guadarrama headed a cross from Sonny on a free kick to give CU an insurance goal in the 58th minute.
Guilherme Riberio would have one more great chance just prior to the final horn, but Johnson, A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year, deflected the shot wide.
Johnson finished with nine stops, Grastad with four.
When the Owls and Camels matched up for the A-Sun regular season title last week, the Guadarrama brothers spoiled their chances with a goal each in that contest as well.
Campbell advanced to play Stetson, who defeated Mercer later in the day, in the A-Sun Championship game.
