Florida Atlantic University's women's swim team won 11 events on the way to a 160-129 win over the University of Miami on Saturday. The Owls opened the season by taking the top three spots in the 100 free, 200 free, 500 free and 200 breast.
Several freshmen had big days in their first collegiate competition. A freshman took three events as the Owls defeated the Hurricanes for the second time in the two seasons.
Freshman Lindsey Alexander (Fort Myers, FL) won the 100 back (57.97). In the 100 fly and 100 free, freshman Jennifer Forcht (Louisville, KY) won both events with times of 57.18 and 53.49, respectively. FAU took the top-four spots in the 100 free with Jessica Lampkin (54.83), Jenny Harms (54.89) and Ashley Carlozzi (55.29) following Forcht.
Standout breaststroker, Ellie Weberg took both the 100 breast (1:05.28) and 200 breast (2:21.48). She led the sweep of the 200 ahead of freshman Nicole Samilo (Bradenton, FL) and Halle Keihlmier (Erie, PA) with times of 2:24.49 and 2:27.84, respectively.
Geni Burts (Pembroke Pines, FL) led the charge in the 200 free and 400 IM. She won the 400 IM by five seconds over UM's Kristen Lunak.
Sophomore Lauren Shue (Fort Myers, FL) made her mark in her first season at FAU. She won the 1000 free (10:18.94) and 500 free (5:05.89).
In the 200 fly, Shawna Griffith (Atlanta, GA) edged out Miami's Nancy Gajos by touching the wall in 2:07.71.
The 200 medley relay of Alexander, Stephanie DeRito, Forcht and Weberg started the meet with a win in 1:49.25. The 200 free relay of Alexander, Forcht, DeRito and Jessica Lampkin closed out the meet with a 1:38.11 win. Three freshmen competed in each relay.
FAU returns to action on October 22 when the team travels to Tampa.
