"They are not only a team, but a family." "This is their time to shine." These are just a few things that our own alumni, Tom Workman had to say about the Fighting Owls. He might have graduated over 30 years ago, but his passion for this university and our outstanding football team is ever-present and real! Why was he so full of emotion when he spoke about them?
As Tom explained it, his alumni group will be tailgating at every game, whether it's at home or away. They will also have the privilege to brag about the character, the integrity, and the grit of this football team. He was proud to talk about their achievements in the last five years, and was eager to share what happened when they played Hawaii University this past weekend.
There was a hurricane in our area, but the FAU Fighting Owls were creating an upset of their own. It was a HEART-STOPPER in HAWAII! Taking it down to the wire, literally, they proved once again that they are a force to be reckoned with. With about 23 seconds left in the game, the Owls came back and scored a touchdown, but missed the extra point. The fans were biting their nails as the game went in to overtime, but our boys did it! They scored, and left Hawaii in the dust!
No wonder Tom was anxious to share the details, and he is just as anxious to attend the game in Denton, Texas this upcoming weekend with his fellow alumni, in fact this season ticket holder says that he is only a part of the awesome fan base that is developing for FAU, and he hopes that it will continue to grow as people see what this team is made of. Not only do they have the skill and determination to win games and championships at this level, but they also have a humbleness and grace that is apparent to all who watch them on and off the field. Even in Hawaii, the team conducted themselves in a way that would make their coach and their parents proud, and this is the kind of thing that has loyal supporters like Tom and his alumni group singing their praises.
