From Finland to FAU! It was a long distance to travel, but one of our players here decided they were going to accept that adventure and pursue their dream. Who is this person and why did they pick FAU to hone their talents, and develop their skills?
Her name is Susanna Lehtinen, and she did come all the way from Espoo, Finland to play soccer here at FAU. One of her reasons for choosing our school over some others was the fact that her own high school coach encouraged her to check us out, as well as our scholarship program that we were offering. When she did that, she found out that we do have an awesome soccer program here and this is exactly where she would like to develop herself as a player.
Furthermore, our reputation precedes us, and once again we are exuding that caring attitude towards our players, and that is the main reason that Susanna decided to play soccer here, after her coach's suggestion. She said that she "...knew a lot about the college and that we take care of our players... and the training here is much different and more intense..."
Susanna has a lot to offer FAU also. Her position is midfield, where she gets to "pass, score, and play one on one defense." Although she is just a freshman, she's already spent the summer playing in the Nordic Cup, where she has competed among the best teams from all across the world. The United States, Germany, Sweden, Iceland, and Denmark, are just a few of the countries that participated. One can imagine what an incredible soccer player Susanna will be once she has completed her college career here with us!
On another note, she is also very disciplined in her academics as well. As I mentioned above, she is technically a freshman since it is her first year in college, but Susanna has taken enough college credit classes that she just might be a sophomore academically. Also, although her major is undecided at the moment, she has a strong interest in International Business and Marketing. It sounds like this young lady has a great head on her shoulders, and a passion to pursue her dreams as well, even though they have taken her a long way from home. I am sure that we will be hearing more great things about Susanna in the upcoming season, as well as in years to come.
