Melissa Whitehead Helps in Every Aspect

Boca Raton - What does a "helping hand" mean? Well, to Melissa Whitehead it means much more than just helping out in FAU's football office.
Melissa Whitehead is a 20 yr. old senior who works in FAU's athletic office helping to make the athletes and thus FAU as successful as they can be. Besides helping with travel arrangements, recruiting, and summer camp, she is the head advisor of the Red and Blue Girls, along with any other projects asked and all while serving as an office assistant. I am sure the recruits that attend games and tour the school are definitely influenced by these young ladies who show them around and "sell the school" to them. We know though that it probably just pushes them over the edge, so to speak, because we have so much to offer here at FAU anyway! What a great thing to have in place here for students coming in.
Back in high school Melissa was in student government and president of her class for three years. Her own leadership skills that she says she developed throughout her life and especially in high school, help her to lead this "spirit" group. Along with completing her masters in administration and athletics, which she wants to do after she graduates, she also plans to move back to her hometown of Clewiston where she will teach in the social science field at her own high school. In addition, she wants to coach softball and work with the younger girls coaching cheerleading.
This all seems to be "in her genes", so to speak, because her Dad played sports in college, and has had his own sports radio broadcast for 25 years, in addition to being the booster club president for 20 years! Understandably, she had never missed a Friday night football game until she started college herself, so she knows a little about what it takes to become a successful student and athlete. In her own words, she wants to "reach out to anyone and everyone with a helping hand."
