Howey-in-the-Hills, FL - Natalia Navarro became the first Florida Atlantic University golfer to participate at a NCAA Division I post-season event Thursday morning when the senior from Columbia tee-off at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL.
Navarro who entered the tournament with a season scoring average of 75.5 shot a 75 on the par 72 6,190-yard course. She, an at-large individual invitee, sits at no. 19 and is one shot off the pace to qualify for the National meet.
Then NCAA will take the top eight seeds from the East Regional hosted by Stetson University and the Central Florida Sports Commission. The two highest individuals not on one of those eight teams will also advance.
Duke University leads the tournament after shoot a team total 286, or two under par. Oklahoma State is 11 shot behind with a 297.
Navarro will begin her second round 12:20 pm, Friday.
